Quick service vs Table service
Two POS workflows on the same app. Pick the one that matches your venue.
The Rowie mobile POS has two service modes. You pick one under Account → POS Mode on the mobile app, and it changes how the cart bar at the bottom of the menu behaves.
Quick service (counter / food truck / pop-up)
The classic POS flow:
- Add items to cart.
- Tap Go to Cart.
- Confirm tip, payment method (first tile reads Tap to Pay on iPhone or Card on Android/web. The other two are Cash and Split), and optional email.
- Tap the bottom pay button (label matches the picked method: Tap to Pay on iPhone, Tap to Pay, Pay with Cash, or Split Payment) and collect payment.
- Done. No table, no waiting.
Use this when there's no concept of a table: counter service, walk-up window, event stall. Each transaction is independent.
Table service (restaurants / bars with seating)
A session-based flow that supports rounds and split-over-time payment:
- Add items to cart.
- Tap Send to table.
- The floor plan opens. Tap the destination table.
- The cart becomes a round on a table session. A new session is opened if the table is empty.
- Cart clears. You're back on the menu.
- Customers eat and drink. Server adds more rounds throughout the meal by tapping back onto the table.
- When it's time to pay, open the session and use Settle (or Close tab for tab sessions). Walk the phone over and take payment.
This is the standard restaurant flow: fire food and drinks to the table now, settle the whole tab at the end. See Sending orders to a table.
Switching modes
The mode persists per device. To switch:
- Tap the Account tab in the mobile POS (bottom tab bar, person-circle icon).
- Scroll to the POS Mode section (between DEVICE and APPEARANCE).
- Tap the Table Service row (restaurant icon, disabled with greyed-out copy "No floor plans set up for this location. Add one in the vendor portal to enable." if the current location has none) or Quick Service row (lightning-bolt icon, sublabel "Counter/QSR/food-truck mode. Orders go straight to checkout, no table.").
- A checkmark appears next to the selected mode and the cart bar updates immediately.
Floor plans are a Pro feature, so Table Service is only available on Pro plans.
What if a location has no floor plans?
Table Service needs at least one floor plan with at least one table at the current location. If the current location has none, Table Service is disabled in the Account → POS Mode picker and the app falls back to Quick Service.
Create a floor plan first. See Floor plans and table QR codes.
